MidMoDiningGuide.com staffers were put to the challenge by our Facebook fans to try out Jazz for lunch and report back with our observations.

Jazz is located off Forum on Chapel Hill Road. It's a little hard to find at first, but if you're craving spicy Cajun entrees, then Jazz is the place for you!

The restaurant brings Louisiana home to mid-Missouri, complete with crispy hushpuppies, creamy coleslaw and spicy dishes that will knock your socks off (make sure you have a drink nearby). All meat can be grilled, blackened or fried to your liking, and for those you with more timid taste buds, the menu clearly labels which options are super spicy.

The menus have a hilarious Cajun dictionary to get you and the group up to speed and complimentary bread comes with a tangy Cajun diane butter sauce. Our waitress was extremely friendly and helped us choose a dish based on our favorite flavors. She even shared a few laughs with us and made sure our drinks were always full.

The slightly dark room made the colorful wall art pop, adding to the fun Mardi Gras theme. Jazz usually attracts more of a dinner crowd, but don't underestimate their lunchtime specials! Prices ranged from $6.49-$8.49, quite a deal considering the portion sizes.

Each of us ordered something different to taste, enjoy and experience for our readers. Here’s a summary of each of the menu items we tried, in each staffer's own words:

Chicken A La Mer
I ordered the half order (1 chicken breast) and it came out on a pile of "dirty rice" covered in a parmesan cream sauce with shrimp and crab meat. I had no clue what "a la mer" meant when I ordered this dish, but I have to say that I was really impressed. The combination of the chicken with the sauce and rice made for a very flavorful meal. Throw in the side of steamed vegetables (a little on the spicy side) and this makes for a great lunch or dinner that really fills you up.

Vodoo Chicken with Cole Slaw and Hushpuppies
I started off with a Seafood Platter Appetizer. Oysters, Cajun Fries, Hushpuppies and Fried Catfish. Very tasty and fresh. My meal was the Voodoo Chicken with Cole Slaw and Hushpuppies. I was very impressed with the chicken and hushpuppies. If you like spicy then you will like "Voodoo." The service was fantastic. I recommend Jazz all day long! When you go, tell "Poppa Jeff" that Chad from MidMODiningGuide sent you. Let The Good Times Roll at Jazz!!!

Chicken and Shrimp Cajun Stir Fry
I'm very particular about my stir fry, but one bite of this spicy dish and I was hooked! The entrée comes with the option of chicken, shrimp or beef—or all of them if you please! The shrimp and chicken were sizzling, the celery added the perfect amount of crunch and the dirty rice had a zing that brought the whole dish together. The lunch size was perfect for me—I even had leftovers!
