July 2011

July is hot, hot, HOT and it's also National Ice Cream Month! To help beat the heat, MidMoDiningGuide.Com decided Chewed and Reviewed this week should be something cold, creamy and sweet. It's a good thing it's never too hot for Culver's concrete's!

Culver's in Columbia was definitely a treat for MidMoDiningGuide.Com staffers. It was fun choosing what we wanted to mix into our custard with the "Sundae Selections" starring you directly in the face; each topping begging to be chosen. The employees were courteous, the restaurant was clean, not too busy for a Tuesday afternoon and we really enjoyed looking at the Veteran's photos and reading their stories on the walls.

The MMDG team had individual concrete's and shared an order of cheese curds. (One of our guys even dipped cheese curds in his concrete he loved it so much.)

Concrete with Heath and Hot Fudge

The flavor of the day – Turtle – was awfully tempting, but I'm a creature of habit and decided to go with my all-time favorite combo: hot fudge and Heath candy bar pieces. The frozen custard was less thick than I've had some other places in town. The thinner concrete melted a bit faster so I had to eat in a hurry! But the melt factor aside, the custard was very smooth and tasty. They were generous with the candy pieces and hot fudge, too, and the whole mix was blended nicely – no bare spots! 4 out of 5 forks.

Concrete with Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough and Marshmallow Cream Swirl

On a hot day there is nothing better than delicious ice cream and Culver's is one of the best!  I decided to go with a concrete of vanilla custard mixed with chocolate chip cookie dough and a marshmallow cream swirl. Yummmmmmmm!  All of the employees were friendly and the restaurant was very clean.  I will definitely go back again! 5 out of 5 forks.

Brownie Batter Concrete Topped with Whipped Cream

As soon as I saw this on the menu, I had to have it. I LOOOVE brownie batter and was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't an overpowering batter flavor. The custard was smooth, the brownies were soft and moist and the whipped cream was the proverbial "frosting on the cake." 4.5 out of 5 forks.

Concrete with Butterfinger and Peanut Butter Cups

It hit the spot. The concrete mixer would be hard to beat. 4 out of 5 forks.
