August 2011
We heard so many great things about Bek’s in Fulton, we had to make the drive from Columbia to go for lunch. First impression was great! The charm and character of the building were kept up with exposed brick and refinished hardwood floors. The lofty feel of a second level with all the exposed staircase was pretty cool and worth the trip just for the décor.
Parmesan Artichoke Dip with Pita Bread
We started out by ordering the parmesan artichoke dip with pita bread. The presentation was wonderful! Just about every restaurant has artichoke dip on their menu, but this appetizer was creamy and had more flavor than most. No chunks of artichokes, so if your not a fan of artichoke, it has all the flavor, but not the texture. The pita bread was lightly toasted with just enough crunch to make it interesting.
"Skinny Salmon" with side salad and house-made vinaigrette dressing
For lunch, I ordered the “Skinny Salmon” with grilled asparagus (which was out of season, but wonderful). To my surprise the salmon also came with a side salad. I ordered the house made vinaigrette and it was tangy and thicker than most vinaigrette dressings, so it coated the lettuce much better. I also liked that they served this on the side. AND all for $7.99 it was a great value. Again the plate presentation had a gourmet feel and made me want to dig right in.
The salmon was cooked just right. Not well done like in most restaurants and had a great teriyaki glaze. The portions were perfect for lunch. The dessert came by our table and looked very tempting, but having just ordered the “skinny” salmon I opted to stay with healthy. Next time I’ll go for the coffee bar and dessert. A definite travel back to destination!!
For lunch I ordered the chipotle chicken salad. It's always great and is a salad that actually sticks with you. I always ask them to leave off the roasted red peppers (just because I'm not a red pepper fan) but this time they were left on the salad...no big deal...easy to pick off. The house balsamic dressing with the chipolte sauce mixed together is always my favorite for this salad (something I kind of made up but it's really good), but they have all kinds of other dressings too...I'm sure ranch would be good as well. Over all lunch was great....as expected!
A side note about Bek's...they are great for ALL meals...not just lunch. If you're in Fulton at breakfast time, check out their biscuits and gravy...amazing! They make their gravy with bacon and sausage! There are always great lunch specials, usually salads sandwiches and soups, as well as their lunch menu. Dinner always has great specials too! Steaks, seafood, pastas...always good. Their in house made deserts are fantastic...my favorite is the carrot cake...I like to have a few bites after dinner and then eat the rest in the morning for breakfast :) They have a nice size wine list to accompany all the entrees and lots of different beers as well.
Be on the look out for the new expansion that should be happening soon this fall!
