Columbia is gifted with a lot of good coffee options, but I think Kaldi's rises above them all. Most of all, it is about the coffee. For me, the traditional latte at Kaldi's is the best espresso drink in Columbia, and sometimes it has a richness of flavor that exceeds what can even be reasonably expected. And at less than $3 it is a real bargain. Just try it once. Throw in soft leather couches, free papers, an extrememly friendly and attentive staff, and a cozy firepace for frosty mornings, and Kaldi's is pretty much a no-brainer.

Today was my first time at Kaldi's. I've been listening to Cosmo & JC for ages and decided to stop by to watch a couple minutes of their broadcast. Had some breakfast and a cup of coffee. I wondered why they chose to go in right there where there are soooo many other coffee shops, and now I know. The atmosphere, food and coffee was WAY better than the other places. I am a coffee junkie and I was impressed. I'll be back for sure!!!

I have been to the Kaldi's in Clayton (their original store) and really loved the atmosphere there so I was excited to hear that Kaldi's had opened in Columbia and decided to check it out while I was in town for the film festival. This store is very "chi-chi-foo-foo" not at all like the Kaldi's I remember. The original store was kind of an off-the-beaten-path type place and very cool. If you like Starbucks or the other run-of-the-mill, chain shops, then you'll like the Columbia Kaldi's. If it's something more eclectic you are looking for---keep looking.
The food and coffee are respectable but pricey.
